Frequently Asked Questions
Is REEL EZ meant to replace my permanent cover?
Not really. It is a quick, on and off cover to be used primarily during the active boat season when you are not storing your boat for an extended period of time.
Does it protect 100% of the boat from debris and sunlight?
Generally, there may be some “gaps” where the sun can hit your boat furniture or where debris can fall in, but protect it from most outside elements. Typically, it covers 90+% of the boat.
Does it prevent mildew, mold and unwanted odors that can come from using a permanent custom cover?
Since REEL EZ is somewhat open at the sides, it allows for air to flow freely through the covered boat. This helps reduce or eliminate mold, mildew and odors. Additionally, it may speed up the drying process if any water gets in.
Is the cover waterproof and will it keep my boat dry?
REEL EZ will deflect most of the water, especially if it is stretched tightly, though the material will let some water come through to the boat.
Will water “pool” on top of the cover so that I need to use adjustable tent poles?
The material is meant to let excess water drip through which will help reduce any “pooling” of water. However, based upon how your dock is configured, you may find it beneficial to use one or two universal adjustable cover poles sold in many name brand stores.
How does the cover work on different dock configurations?
REEL EZ works best on U-shaped docks where the boat is lifted and covered. However, it will work on L-shaped docks and where the boat is not lifted or covered. In the case of an L-shaped dock, you will have to start working the snap straps on the bow of the “open” side of the dock. A boat that is floating and not lifted will require a little extra “slack” in the material at the reel.
Is there a warranty?
We only use Reels from Rocky’s Reels which provide a 5 year warranty. The material is warrantied for 5 years.
Is REEL EZ difficult to install?
In our opinion, no. Generally, it will take about 1 – 1.5 hours to fully install everything. The instructions are easy to follow and we have provided additional video instructions.
How does the material stay attached to the boat?
We use specialized, adjustable “strap snaps”. They can either attach to your existing boat snaps or can create their own loop by using snaps to allow you to attach them through a cleat or some other fixture on the dock or your boat.
